Homes
of Hope impacts Fiji
Solo Mums
Homes of Hope helps young single
mothers by teaching them life changing skills. These
women then
can become
productive
and responsible members of the community. This is
done primarily through long-term residential care.
Children
Homes of Hope helps children by establishing new
lifestyles. New habits, thinking, and attitudes
are established
to help break repeated negative patterns. A safe
home is provided
for their early years of growth and development.
Families
Prevention is the best cure to make strong healthy
marriages. Homes of Hope works with young married
couples as well
as those preparing to be married. These couples
take a rigorous either-week class to better equip
them
for the
demands of raising a healthy family.
Communities
Homes of Hope believes very strongly that the
institution of the family is the core of a
strong community,
therefore the nation. The message spoken is
faithfulness in marriage – before
and during marriage. Leaders are being trained
to take this message into schools.
Overview
Homes of Hope was founded in 1996 to stop the cycles
of poverty and destruction of families throughout
the South Pacific. A group of local business men and women in Suva,
Fiji incorporated this registered charity
non-government
organization to bring hope to those hurt
by these cycles.
Since its inception, Homes of Hope
has transformed the lives of single mothers and
their children,
strengthened families, and inspired the local community. Through
a powerful combination of programs, Homes of Hope is providing vocational
and academic training, instilling responsibility into the lives of
parents, and the spiritually mentoring young couples as well as the
young single mothers who reside at the Homes of Hope compound.
Vision
Homes of Hope Fiji provides a fresh start – inside and out – for young women and their children who were exploited through sex trafficking and forced sex. Additionally, Homes of Hope works to prevent exploitation of new victims through grassroots education on gender violence and gender value.
Mission Homes of Hope is an international organisation mandated to rescue, restore, and reintegrate young single mothers and their children who are survivors of the crushing burden of forced sex, including trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, sexual violence, and gender violence. As well, Homes of Hope's mission is to provide a remedy to stop others from entering this devastating and destructive cycle.
RESCUE We rescue victims who are vulnerable to sexual exploitation by providing a residential campus for young single mothers who are pregnant or have children under the age of two years. We rescue victims who are vulnerable to forced sex (trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, and sexual violence. We help define the concept of vulnerability in the context of the nation of Fiji.
RESTORE We restore survivors of sexual exploitation through a family atmosphere and using peer-mentoring programs for an average period of three years on a residential campus leading to inner health, good mothering, and financial independence. We support the women to navigate the responsibilities of pregnancy, motherhood, and parenting. We provide mentoring and personalised attention to foster healing from trauma. We train, equip, and empower disadvantaged women to take responsibility for their family leading to inner health, good mothering skills, and sustainable independent living.
REINTEGRATE We help the survivors reintegrate into a community by starting with assistance with mediation to family members, clan and community reconciliations, and coordinating transitions to safe and secure environment. We help reintegrate women by empowering mothers economically to ensure their ability to make independent choices not hindered by offenders or traffickers. We follow-up with frequent monitoring to ensure secure housing, safe environment, and productive earning power for both the mother and child.
REMEDY We remedy the destructive cycles of sexual exploitation by sharing a message of purity to create recognition, change, and empowerment to prevent of sexual abuse, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, and sex trafficking; establish gender equality; and stop the cycles of destructive social behaviour. Our grassroots-based teaching is directed to leaders at schools, communities, and youth groups.
OTHER NATIONS We reach vulnerable and sexually exploited women in other nations through knowledge sharing, developing partnerships in collaborative ministries, or pioneering new projects. We identify and train local leadership who can translate the current mission model to their nations.
